Retroreflection returns light toward its source.
Unlike a mirror (specular) or a white wall (diffuse), retroreflective materials send a useful portion of light back toward the driver or observer. That is why traffic signs and vehicle markings stay visible at night.

Traffic signs, delineators, vehicle conspicuity markings, and some apparel safety trims. Window privacy film is a different product family.
